Classroll: "More home, less work"
by Ryann Cioppa '05 - Student Waterville High School
Waterville Public Schools has adopted a new grading software tool designed to aid teachers, students, and parents alike…
classroll.com.
Classroll is a site where teachers log in their grades and attendance records, and students and parents may check
grades and progress throughout each quarter.
Classroll provides an online system where teachers post grades, lesson plans, and assignments-leaving students with
no excuses for missed work.
In my opinion, Classroll is excellent. Not only do I not have to worry whether or not I turned in my English
paper or if my physics report were in on time, I know my exact grade!
Most teachers are really good about updating grades upon correcting, and it is very useful to know what you are missing
when you have been absent from class. Whether it be a test, quiz, or paper, the assignment and the grade are posted
on Classroll-along with the weight of the assignment.
Classroll's slogan "More home, less work," fits perfectly. This year, I have been more organized and more on
top of things. For example, if I have done an assignment and passed it in and it becomes lost, it is easy to recognize
that on Classroll. Teachers seem very appreciative of the new tool as well, and they are very cooperative when told
that something is missing or asked to correct a grade.
Teachers used to be the "portals" to our grades; we were often unaware of what our averages were. Furthermore,
there were often "surprises" when report card time came. This is no longer true.
I think Classroll has improved awareness and understanding of grades immensely! It has helped my peers and
me to be more grade conscious, and it has offered many parents the opportunity to participate more fully in their child's
education.
